Enhance Your Business Plan – Intuitively Set an Intention

As business professionals, we put together a business plan and we move forward to execute that plan. Do we review the plan throughout the year or following years? Are we still on task? If not, have we revised the plan to meet our needs and the needs of the customers? What is the mission? What is the intent?

Some business leaders I know set aside time at a coffee shop EVERY SUNDAY to review their plan and make adjustments. I equate this to being similar to a teacher’s lesson plan for the week. BUT, it’s a continuous focus. I also know of leaders who annually give up 2-4 weeks of their “sales time” to go internally and develop their business intuitively. I’m impressed with their ability and priority to retreat.

What does it mean to develop your business intuitively? Geshe Michael Roach and Lama Christie McNally wrote a fabulous book titled The Diamond Cutter: The Buddha on Managing Your Business and Your Life. There are many great practical techniques explained. Most impressive are the real business problems and solutions addressed in detail.

1. Setting an intention and guiding yourself and your business intuitively is a simple task using one important tool. It’s as simple as trusting your gut. The personal and professional development comes in developing your intuitive awareness and skills. I often use the phrase “it didn’t smell right” – meaning I didn’t get a good vibe about this subject when I gave it the smell test. Pay attention to your body and mind when developing and responding to your business ideas/plans. Familiarity with the chakra system is an asset here as well. We can learn to read our body and our mind with the opportunity to clear any stagnation, yet understand the source of discomfort and/or anxiety. It provides opportunities to further modify the plans as necessary.

2. Meditation and “setting the day” with intention is extremely powerful. Here we have the opportunity to clear that which is troubling us as well as setting forth a positive outlook for the day, week, month, year, etc. Amazing discoveries are available in meditation. Again, it’s a skill that can be developed with beautiful results. It’s not one to fear, but to find a qualified person as a guide.

3. Consult with an intuitive professional. These individuals are succeeding themselves by applying these same concepts. Many, including myself, use vision boards, crystals, journals, meditation, yoga, energy healing, EFT, muscle testing, and various other techniques. You can too.

Business plans are wonderful and effective. Adding the art of intention by developing your intuitive side is a fabulous complement to thriving in life and the workplace.

Do you practice yoga? Are you looking to reduce the ego and fear and live your life and expand your career based on love? If so, contact Jennifer about the “Living Yoga Philosophies – Thriving Off the Mat in Your Workplace and Life” Program.

Latest Article: Non-Skier Embraces Winter

Jentle Jen’s latest article at bizymoms.org: “Non-Skier Embraces Winter”

http://www.bizymoms.com/expert-advice/Article/Non-Skier-Embraces-Winter/85218

Introduction to the article:
As a central Wisconsin female residing in a rural community, it’s an effort to benefit from the dark days, the cold nights, and the white, wet snow. My all-wheel-drive vehicle is one of my best friends during the dreary days of snow travel. Cabin fever sets in when I don’t get out into the fresh air and the open sky on a regular basis. But what’s a non-skier to do to “enjoy” the winter?

Typically, those who love the winter are either skiers or snowmobilers. I’ve tried skiing twice and it’s just not my thing. I’m happy I tried it to rule it in or out, and I’m hoping my daughter picks it up as my husband is an excellent skier. I rode on snowmobiles as a child with my crazy uncles and again ruled it out as a form of entertainment. I’m more of a passive participant in winter sports. Although, as a child you would catch me screaming down an icy, snowy family hill on an inflatable tube, launching into the air over a log and an icy piece of plywood. Needless to say, this was not my mother’s favorite activity for my siblings and me. Sledding was one thing, but flipping over in the air was saved for areas where “mom couldn’t see us.” Another favorite spot was behind my neighbor’s house where at the end of the hill is a barbed wire fence as the parameter of the lot line. I managed to slice my entire snowmobile suit down the side of my body as a youngster, without a scratch on me. Ahh, those were the days!

Today, I’m more that passive person. I have no reservation admitting that fear is a part of it. But how do you enjoy the long winters and get the fresh air when you’re not a fan of skiing or snowmobiling?

Book Recommendation: Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse

Description: The best selling classic takes place in ancient Nepal around the time of Gautama Buddha. It starts as Siddhartha, the some of a Brahmin, leaves his home to join the ascetics with his companion Govinda. The two set out in the search of enlightenment. Siddhartha goes through a series of changes and realizations as he attempts to achieve this goal.

Jentle Jen’s message: As an individual and as a family, we are going through our own series of changes. I am starting a new adventure – Yoga Teacher Training, my husband started a new job, and my daughter a new school experience. Reflecting on these words and my life, it brought me to tears. Tears shedding old pain, tears recognizing the current environment, and tears for the wonderful things to come. Mostly, tears of being OK with where we are now. Everything is OK.

I invite you to read the book. I couldn’t put it down, and it did change my life – for the better. I am lighter, freer, and more loved.

12.21.10 – My First Winter Solstice Outdoor Meditation

A new experience was born today, which has yet to be defined in detail, but will forever evolve. Tonight, I put on my flannel pajamas and warmed up my hot cocoa with the plan to sit comfortably in my warm meditation corner to absorb the full moon on this first day of winter. I then was intuitively led to go outside to fully participate in today’s solar and lunar activities. I can’t believe this hadn’t occurred to me before today. Over my pajamas I covered up with my winter coat, snow pants, boots, hat, and mittens, and like a child, headed outdoors to “play.” Play meant sitting upright on my yoga mat in the snow. I was grounded to the earth while reaching for the moon.

Each full moon, I have a terrible time sleeping. I tossed and turned all night last night, without reason why, until I remembered the lunar and solar activities. Today, I decided that meditation (a.k.a. “listening”) was my personal call of duty. The healing power of these moments will carry with me forever, but hopefully at least for tonight, will provide me a good night’s rest and healing. As I write this I smile and I glow.

Doreen Virtue reminds me “The lunar and solar activities are working upon you today and tonight, clearing away and healing old issues. You are literally in a Healing Temple of Light, just as in the days of Atlantis. So, today, just as you would when receiving any energy healing treatment: recline, rest, take it easy, breathe deeply, meditate and contemplate, and be open to receiving healing love.”

Did I mention I live in Wisconsin and it was 30 degrees Fahrenheit? This is a high temperature given our recent cold spell, so it felt like a heat wave. Regardless, it didn’t matter – I was enjoying the sight and beauty of the falling snow, the sound and touch of the flakes on my skin, and the activity that occasionally hustled by in a hurried fashion. For me, I was at peace. My daughter was in bed, my husband was working, and I was enjoying the beautiful, peaceful universe of which we live and breathe.

• My skin was cool, but my center was warm.
• My clothes were getting wet, but I was staying dry.
• There was noise around me, but peace and quiet within me.
• Passersby were in a hurry, but I was patient.
• Fear was near, but love was everywhere.

One final piece of information to share: my husband mentioned following my re-entry to our house “I should’ve thrown a snow ball at you.” Ahh, back to reality. Time for personal reflection with my Angel and Oracle Cards. Peace to you!

11.22.10 – (RTO) Radio #3: Invite Your Child into Your Meditation

Radio Therapy Online

Part 1
Hello, this is Jennifer Culver from Jentle Wellness, and whether you’re new to meditation or a seasoned practitioner, I’m happy to discuss with you the opportunity of inviting your children into your meditation practice. If you’ve never practiced meditation yourself, I’ll also share with you how 5 minutes of quiet time a day can help stimulate your health and wellness.

Meditation is defined as an opportunity to empty your mind or to ponder something. Often times both events occur in a single session. Meditation is intimidating to many. It doesn’t have to be difficult or scary. It’s as simple as it sounds…emptying your mind or pondering something.

Now think of the children in your life. What beautiful bundles of energy. I have a five year old daughter who is simple but loves to talk. It’s absolutely exhausting! I truly believe she loves to hear her own voice and has a desire to voice every thought that comes into her mind. With that, I make two conclusions: (1) she loves to be involved and share her thoughts with Mom and Dad (or anyone who will listen) and (2) she has an active mind that’s processing a lot of thoughts.

So as I think to how I am similar, I recognize how I’ve grown spiritually and physically by calming my mind and simplifying my life. My 2010 Mantra set last January is centered around one word “Simplicity.” I’m also thinking that my 2011 Mantra will be “Jentle.” I’m recognizing how my subconscious level chose the name of my business “Jentle Wellness.” It wasn’t an accident. Again, a great reminder to me and to you to be jentle with yourself. With that, meditation is a prime example.

Think of how often children are sent to go sit in a “time out” to be quiet and reflect on what they’ve done wrong. In an odd way, one could equate this to meditation. But now, look at quiet time for our youngsters perspective as being an empowering experience, rather than as discipline. We try so hard to reward positive behavior, but it takes time and energy. By practicing a quiet meditation with our young people, we are demonstrating the power of quieting our minds and our bodies for GOOD. They can take their practice, as defined by them, and perform it at anytime that suits them – not just the bad times. It may be on the bus, it may be on the playground, it may be when they need a break. I look forward to the day when my daughter says “Mommy, I need some quiet time” and then marches off to meditate on her own. It hasn’t happened yet, but I trust it will come, and I’ll be proud of her and my achievement – for her benefit.

I’ll be honest, my initial intent with bringing my daughter into my meditation practice was a selfish one. I wanted to take a few minutes for myself, and with a vocal, active five year old, at times it’s a challenge. Initially I found that I could only quiet my mind when she was asleep. Unfortunately, that’s what I wanted to do at the same time, and most often that’s what happened…I drifted off to sleep. But then I realized, what a wonderful opportunity for her. I want her to understand why Mommy sits with her legs crossed, her eyes shut, and in a quiet state. I also wanted her to learn from my example. Now by inviting her into the practice, not only am I getting the few minutes I need and deserve, she is too. I’m showing her at a very early age that it’s okay and it’s beautiful. Our quiet times have now turned into a bonding experience as we sit close to each other – our positive, soft energy feeding off of each other. Every time, at some point she looks up into my eyes and places a gentle kiss on my face, with a warm smile. As a reiki master, I also have the opportunity to share reiki healing with her in those few moments. My intention is often to calm and comfort her with peace and love. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Part 2
Welcome back. This is Jennifer Culver with Jentle Wellness and we are now going to explore further HOW to invite your child into your meditation practice and also HOW to incorporate meditation into your life. It’s less intimidating that you think, so let’s explore it together.

As a reminder, meditation is about emptying your mind or pondering something in a safe, quiet space.
Where do you sit? Anywhere you desire. You don’t need fancy equipment. You can sit on the couch, on the floor, you can sit on your child’s bed. Find a spot that makes both of you comfortable. If you’re taking a few minutes for yourself, it can be in your car and heck, even in the rest room. It’s not about how you sit or where you sit – you can do it standing up. Don’t worry about the process and equipment, just give into the love and the serenity.

So at what age should you begin with your child? The younger the better. Like all educational experiences with young people, they are sponges – they take it all in. Additionally, in their young years, they are closer to the source than we are. It’s only been five years since my daughter was born, so she was closer to the source five years ago, than I am in my forties. This is an opportunity for the two of us to both reconnect with our source.

I often hear my adult friends express “I can’t get my kid to sit for 2 minutes, it’ll never work.” I challenge everyone to think of how much children love to spend time with their parents, and how much they want to loved and held – especially at the youngest of age. They don’t even realize what’s happening at the early ages – and it’s not a form of deceit. As you grow together in years and in spirit, you can have age-appropriate discussions on what’s really occurring. They understand so much more than we realize – we easily underestimate what they can comprehend – at least I did. For my daughter and I, we call this our quiet time together.

So what if you’re struggling to begin your own meditation practice? Guess what – the same approach is available. Keep it simple. Whether you’re practicing by yourself, or with your child, a simple kitchen timer set for 5 minutes is a great way to begin. If you’re in your car or out and about, set your cell phone alarm for 5 minutes. Again, it’s not about being fancy. Find a quiet spot, set your timer, close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Breathe from your abdomen and relax your shoulders. Resist the temptation to look at the timer to view how much time remains. It’s common to have your monkey mind actively controlling your thoughts. As you begin, don’t worry about it. Worrying feeds that monkey mind. Even taking a few minutes to quiet your words and focus on your breath has significant health benefits. As you continue to practice, you continue to grow. You can increase the minutes as you go. The same is true with the children. The first 5 minutes that my daughter and I spent in meditation, she was able to quiet her mouth, but not her mind and her hands. She was fascinated with the kitchen timer. As she grew in practice, she grew in quieting her mind.
When my daughter is tempted to begin speaking, I just put my finger to my mouth in a polite hush fashion and then return to closing my eyes and breathing deeply. As I inhale and exhale deeply and audibly, she naturally does the same. Children love to imitate their parents, and by practicing what I preach, she’s naturally picking up on my behaviors, without instruction and without judgment.

Regardless of your previous meditation experience, consider taking at least 5 minutes each day to quiet your mind, quiet your body, and to open your soul. If the word meditation intimidates you, remove it from your vocabulary. Consider it relaxation time to regain your mind and your health – especially as we begin the hectic holiday season. I invite you to share your experience with your children. Collectively your energy vibrates and your health and wellness soar.

…in peace, happiness, and wellth…Namaste my friends.

10.27.10 – The Energy of Wind

Wind is such a magical force, especially when it exceeds 40 mph. It’s a popular power source for electricity. Consider the energy it provides us each personally and collectively. When the wind shakes your house, you thrive on the comforts of home. You feel grounded as you take shelter, enjoying a warm blanket, a book, and a hot beverage. On the flip side, it may be a pest. As I write this, my glass paned doors and windows are shaking with winds in excess of 55 mph. My screen door has a hole it in from a flying object protruding the screen. It kept my daughter awake last night, which in turn kept me awake last night. Additionally, the wind is actually decreasing our power with downed power lines. This is opposite of how we trust wind to provide us power.

How do you stay grounded and centered in these situations? What impact does it have on your personal energy? How about the energy of your surrounding friends and family?

If the wind brings up concerns of weather emergencies, like a tornado, it follows with an increase in your heart rate and anxiety. It may then lead to irrational thoughts and actions. What a wonderful opportunity to focus on your breath for relaxation and stress reduction. Taking it a step further, if the power is out, meditation by candle light is a beautiful option. Think of the energy created by the wind as you close your eyes and release all thoughts, ideas, and expectations. What comes up for you during that time? Think of the energy created when you stop thinking about the wind and just let go in the moment.

For me, I gained awareness of the forces greater than myself. We are all one and our energies impact each other. What one person says or does impacts others. Each of us are impacted by how one day’s weather flows. A hurricane in the south still impacts the north – less impactful, but still impactful. It has a powerful influence that cannot be ignored. As the waves crash and the leaves blow, we are reminded of this energy far greater than who we are individually. Does it shock you? Does it shake you up mentally or emotionally?

Our responses and reactions to such situations demonstrate for us our ability to ‘let it go’ and ‘love ourselves regardless of the circumstances.’ If you get bent out of shape by a weather pattern, what’s behind that emotion? If you peel back the onion, what’s going on for you at that moment? Are you feeling as if the wave is physically crashing into your body or mind? The wind and the storms have significant energy, but you don’t have to let it consume you inside and out. You also have power, the power to accept that which is happening around you, and the power to ‘ride it out’ or ‘drop to your knees’. As you read this message, consider what area of your body is responding to these words. Is it an energetic, wonderful feeling? Is it pain and discomfort? Regardless, your response to the energy of the wind and the storm, personally or meteorologically, is a great indicator of your life. To listen to it and understand it takes courage and often assistance. Give into it, for your health and wellbeing.

10.18.10 – Strategies – Can’t Sleep and Crave Sugar

Oh, how the appetite appears when you are unable to sleep. It’s 3:00 am and you want sugar, carbohydrates, or anything to satisfy the fact that you cannot get back to sleep. Welcome the weight gain. This is not a new concept – it is a well-known, well-documented fact. So how do you address the situation and turn off the sugar craving and ideally fall back to sleep? The following discusses meditation, breathing techniques, herbal teas, energy tapping, yoga, and your nighttime routine.

Meditation is one approach to switch your attention away. For many this seems like an obstacle, not a solution. It’s often intimidating to those who are new to mediation. You don’t have to be an expert. If your sleep loss and trigger to eat is a recurring event, consider purchasing a guided meditation program. It’s quite convenient to have a CD player and headphones on your nightstand available when the need strikes. Ideally, you benefit by NOT GETTING OUT OF BED. When you’re struggling to keep in a restful slumber, grab the CD player rather than the remote control, book, or take a walk to the kitchen.

How about counting sheep? Well the idea is good in that it takes your mind off of the fact that you’re not sleeping and may keep you from raiding the refrigerator. But it would be quite easy to count and take the sugar walk to the kitchen. Another strategy to invite into your bedroom is to lie on your back with your arms and legs all stretched out long and comfortable. Then take a deep abdominal breath in and out, actually feeling and watching your stomach rise and fall, if it’s not too dark. If a thought comes into mind, recognize that it is there, and then redirect your attention back to your breathing. If you feel the need to think about something, recognize how your heart rate is slowing and your body is further relaxing with each breath. If you witness a fast pace and/or are concerned you’re not doing it right, relax. This is not a time to place yourself under additional pressure. Nobody’s watching, listening, nor critiquing you in this exercise. There is no right way or wrong way – just possibly better ways. These better ways come with time. Hopefully this isn’t a significantly recurring event. If it is, consider seeking professional assistance. Professional coaches experienced in meditation and/or stress reduction are one option for consideration.

If you truly need to satisfy your emptiness by ingesting something, consider herbal tea. Number one, be sure that the tea is caffeine-free and stimulant-free. Natural herbs exist that are stimulating and would defeat the purpose. Additionally, if you’re looking for something sweet, look for a brand that’s designed to assist with insomnia with a sweet flavor. Chamomile is a popular choice for the evening slumber. Taking the walk to the kitchen to heat the water for the tea will stimulate your mind and body. Also, consider the five to fifteen minutes it takes for the tea to steep. Another opportunity to ponder is a combined approach. Once the tea is steeping, walk back to your bed and practice the breathing technique or the meditation technique. Often times, you don’t rise again nor go back to the kitchen for that cup of tea. You can also cheat and bring the tea to your room and place it on your nightstand next to your CD player. If you need it, drink it. But, consider that you may awake again to relieve your bladder – another sleep disruption. There are so many factors and so many options.

Another example that’s gaining in popularity is energy tapping. It’s a powerful energy psychology technique for controlling fears and negative emotions, weight control, eliminating painful memories and trauma, recovering from addiction, improving relationships, lowering blood pressure, and improving immunity and managing allergies. This is all detailed nicely in Energy Tapping – Second Edition by Fred P. Gall, Ph. D. and Harry Vincenzi, Ed. D. Your inability to sleep may be due to stress, fears, and/or negative emotions. Your sugar cravings may be related to these as well and possibly taking further towards binge eating. This is an opportunity to make a list of all of your beliefs and behaviors possible relevant to your thoughts and behaviors. From there, you can practice energy tapping techniques specific to reversing your self-sabotaging activities and looking to self-acceptance statements.

Various yoga programs are developed to improve your sleep function. Certain yoga poses increase the blood circulation to the sleep center in your brain. This helps normalize your sleep cycle. Yoga eliminates toxins from your system. Your relaxed state improves your sleep. You actually may sleep less as yoga improves your sleep. Various videos reside on www.youtube.com to assist you in an insomnia-specific yoga program. Consider taking a warm bath with lavender oil following your yoga practice as you get ready to retire for the evening.

Lastly, if this is a recurring event, reflect on your nighttime routine. Just like parents are cautious with giving their children sugar late in the day – it also impacts your sleep. Sugar is not always obvious. If you choose to have an alcoholic beverage or two in the evening, you are impacting your sleep. Your liver and heart compensate for the additional sugar in your system and put extra stress on your body to clean out the toxins. A desert or another carbohydrate in the evening has the same effect. Caffeine is the other sleep buster – the most notable disruptor. Evaluate how significant this is a disruption in your life. Review your routine in the late afternoon and evening for ways to improve your flow.

If sleep loss with or without nighttime sugar cravings are recurring events, research your professional support options, locally and globally.

10.11.10 – Awakening

Awakening may be the beginning of your growth experience.  Awakening may be arousing from an emotional or physical slumber as that symbol of a beginning or an opportunity for growth.  It may be a revival of something familiar from the past – good or bad.  Is your awakening a positive or negative experience?  Are you welcoming it or fighting it?  Is it time to shift your energy and perspective to create a new, positive awakening?  Interestingly enough, it may be a combination of the examples above.

Awakening – A Struggle

If you have trouble sleeping, awakening is typically not welcomed.  What’s the lesson here?  You experience the emotions and you toss and turn analyzing it every which way and backwards.  Although it may not be desirable, this is an opportune time for journaling and dumping your anxiety out onto paper.  Release it and bring it forward.  Recognize the anxiety and negative energy that’s released physically, mentally, and emotionally.  Tears may come, but they tell a story.  Welcome the story, welcome the tears, and welcome the experience for the opportunity to grow.

Awakening – Law of Attraction

You desire and put forth into the universe that which you want and that which you don’t want when you put attention to it, and then you’re surprised when it presents itself.  When you’re shifting your energies through a transition, it’s hard to let go of the past.  Focusing on your past doesn’t release the past.  That which is familiar is still desirable as it’s a fall-back plan – your safety cushion.   If you’re questioning and lacking confidence in that which you desire, call on your divine team for support.  Meditation is both a passive and an active productivity tool for deriving solutions.  The clarity may not come overnight so be patient.  Place your attention on that which you desire with clarity.  Tell the universe your vision as if you’re already living it.  Leave the past behind.

Awakening – Spiritual Awakening

Spiritual awakening is a level of personal consciousness that’s unique to you.  You may have significant awareness and may be on a journey of growth in this area.  Do you welcome it or fear the experience?  Your awakening may be the fact that you’re developing a heightened state of this spiritual consciousness.  Everyone has the opportunity to be a spiritual being.   If it’s a struggle and keeping you awake at night, again consider journaling and meditation for direction from your spiritual team of guides.  You have a wonderful team of energy available to help, not hurt.  If you’re feeling hurt, consider the source.  Your spirit guides are not hurting you – you’re hurting you.  Welcome it, determine through reflection and guidance how it benefits you, and utilize it for growth on your journey.  If you’re sensitive and feeling overwhelmed with the energy you experience, seek assistance from an energy healer and/or professional spiritual coach to learn protection approaches and how to release negative energies that exist in your environment.

Awakening – From Struggle to Opportunity

Regardless of what is awakening in your life, you have a say in how it plays out.  When you think that it’s being done to you, you’ll continue to feel out of control.  Recognize the beautiful opportunity presenting itself and draft a plan that’s right for you.  If you feel like you’re still going against the grain, work with a professional to explore your thoughts, beliefs, and actions around the topic at hand.  Are you ready to accept that which is awakening within you?
